Every calculation runs in your browser, and we provide each tool transparently with its published formula and grade table.
What is GradeCalc
GradeCalc (study.moneycomon.com) is a free set of tools that helps college students, high schoolers, transfer applicants and grad-school applicants handle common GPA and grade calculations quickly and accurately. We make the seemingly complex weighted-average GPA, grade-scale conversion and class-rank banding easy to understand by showing the formulas and grade tables alongside each result.
Operating principles (E-E-A-T)
- Experience — we mirror the item structure used on real report cards and transcripts (credits, grade points, rank) and break the result down the same way.
- Expertise — calculations are based on standard references: the weighted-average GPA formula, the 4.5/4.3/4.0 grade-point tables and the 9-tier/5-tier cumulative cutoffs.
- Authoritativeness — we direct you to defer to official standards such as your school's academic rules, and we note that schools differ.
- Trustworthiness — we never hide the formula, and we clearly flag estimated figures. Your inputs are never collected or stored.
Data & standards
The grade tables and band ratios used in each tool follow the standards commonly used at universities and high schools. Specific values can vary by school, instructor and year, and we update to the latest values when rules change (for example, the 2025 shift to a 5-tier class-rank system).
- College grade points: 4.5 / 4.3 / 4.0 scale grade tables (common conventions)
- Class rank: 9-tier (current) and 5-tier (2025 first-years, 2028 admissions) cumulative ratios
- Percentage conversion: common absolute-grading bands (for example A+ at 95)
About accuracy
All GradeCalc results are reference estimates based on your input and published formulas. Grade-scale conversion in particular is a linear (ratio) approximation, and percentage-to-grade bands, retakes and tie handling differ by school. Confirm your official GPA and grades against your school's academic system (transcript).
